The Yellow- crowned Whitestart is a species of bird in the family Parulidae and the order Passeriformes. it measures around 13 centimeters. It is endemic to the highland forest and woodland in the Santa Marta Mountains in Colombia.
It opens its tail as it jumps and flits in the foliage in search of insects.
It has black sides of the head with a conspicuous yellow patch in the center of the crown. It has yellowish forehead and flanges and above is mainly grey with an olive-green patch on the back. Its lower parts are bright yellow and the tail is black with conspicuous white rectrices.
Endemic to Colombia. It lives between 1500 and 3000 m above sea level in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.
It is very common to see it in humid forests and forest edges.
This species is mainly insectivorous.
