10 Days Magdalena Valley and Llanos

The biodiversity of Colombia is bigger than the country itself, the special conditions of the geography make of this region a special place for nature lovers, from Magdalena Valley to the vast savanna in the Orinoco region.

  1. Day 0: Arrival to Bogotá (2,600 m.a.s.l.)

    Pick up at the airport and transfer to the hotel, dinner and rest.

  2. Day 1: Drive one hour to Jardín Encantado in San Francisco (1,500 m., warm weather)

    Looking for Indigo-capped Hummingbird and other hummingbirds, then, drive 40 minutes to Laguna de Tabacal (1,300 m. warm) our target here is the Rossy- Thrush Tanager. In the afternoon we drive two hours to Victoria, we have two options of accommodation in this place.

  3. Day 2: Visit to Bellavista Reserve (700 m.a.s.l. warm)

    Looking for Sooty Ant Tanager, Beautiful Woodpecker, White-mantled Barbet, Tody Motmot, Striped Manakin, White-bearded Manakin and others, in the afternoon, visit Charcha de Guarinocito looking for the Northern Screamer and Velvet-fronted Euphonia and overnight in La Dorada (200 m.a.s.l. very warm weather).

  4. Day 3: Drive two hours to El Paujil Reserve at 220 m.a.s.l. (3 to 4 hours)

    We will make some stops on the way. Overnight at Paujil Reserve

  5. Day 4: Birding in the morning and back to Bogotá in the afternoon
  6. Day 5: Visit in the morning to Paramo de Sumapaz (4.000 m.a.s.l.)

    Looking for Green-bearded Helmetcrest, Bronze-tailed Thornbill, Pale-bellied Tapaculo, Sylver-throated Spinetail, Rufous-browed Conebill and others, in the afternoon, drive two hours to Monterredondo (1,900 m.aa.s.l. rainy) looking for Cundinamarca Antpitta, Flame-faced Tanager, Brown-breasted Parakeet and others. Overnight at Villavicencio (500 m.a.s.l.)

  7. Day 6: Birding in the morning at Aguas Claras (550 m.a.s.l.)

    Looking for Amazonian Umbrellabird, Paradise Tanager, Andean Cock of the Rock. Bosque Bavaria in the afternoon to see Green-backed Trogon, White-chested Puffbird and other birds, overnight in Lagos de Menegua Lodge

  8. Day 7: Birding at morning in Lagos de Menegua around the lodge (450 m.a.s.l.)

    Looking for Scarlet, Green, Glossy and Sharp-tailed Ibis; Horned Screamer, Capped and Whistling Herons and others; in the afternoon visit to Camino Montfordiano (500 m.a.s.l.) then drive to Yopal to our lodge.

  9. Day 8: Drive to Hato Mata de Palma in San Luis de Palenque (400 m.a.s.l.)

    To enjoy the diversity of the llanos región.

  10. Day 9: Morning exploring for birds, Mata de Palma

    Is a farm´s group with more than 9,000 hectares to explore, mammals, reptilians and birds, perfect for a safari trip in Colombia.

  11. Day 10: Birding in the morning and transfer in the afternoon to Yopal, then flight to Bogotá.
