Is a species of bird in the family Cotingidae and the order Passeriformes, measures about 20 centimeters with bill and leg orange red. The males have a lustrous black head and high chest bounded by a yellow band. The chest and lower belly is yellow with green spots and the back is totally green with blackish tertiaries feathers and white apex. The females present a similar pattern of coloration but with the head and the tall chest dark olive green.
This species is found in Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, in Colombia is distributed from 900 to 2700 meters above sea level in the three mountain ranges.
The habitats are humid forest, often on forest edges and in secondary succession forests.
It feeds mainly on fruits, some of them species of the families ๐๐ฉ๐ฐ๐ณ๐ข๐ฏ๐ต๐ฉ๐ข๐ค๐ฆ๐ข๐ฆ, ๐๐ณ๐ช๐ค๐ข๐ค๐ฆ๐ข๐ฆ and ๐๐ฆ๐ญ๐ข๐ด๐ต๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ข๐ต๐ข๐ค๐ฆ๐ข๐ฆ. Like others cotingas it may eventually include food of animal origin.
It is usually seen in couples or in family groups. It moves silently the undergrowth and the average level of vegetation where it eats perched fruits or captures it by sustained flight, sometimes it follows mixed flocks.
