Journey into one of Colombia’s most remote and fascinating birding destinations: the wild Amazonian landscapes surrounding Inírida. This exclusive expedition blends pristine rainforest, dramatic granite monoliths, and rich indigenous culture while exploring a region with more than 550 recorded bird species and a unique mix of Amazonian and Guianan specialties. From the moment you arrive, you will enter a vibrant world of tropical forests and blackwater rivers where extraordinary birds such as the Pompadour Cotinga, Spangled Cotinga, Hoatzin, Paradise Tanager, and the spectacular White-throated Toucan await your lens.
Arrival to Bogotá and transfer to the hotel or flight to Inírida (I suggest arrive one day before or too early in the morning, the flight to Inírida actually is at 6:00 am; 9:00 am and 11:00 and takes 2 hours to go) accommodation and then, visit to a near place looking for the first Amazon birds, overnight in Fuente del Guainía Hotel.
We leave Inírida early in the morning and will take a boat by two hours to go into the Amazon, this day we will share meet an indigenous community, they live in a beautiful place called Mavecure Stones (Enormous rocks group of 700 meters of altitud) We will spend the day looking for amazon birds and enjoying local food and landscapes. In the afternoon, back to Inírida. Fuente del Guainía Hotel. Possible birds of the day could be: Pompadour Cotinga, Spangled Cotinga, Hoatzin, White-throated Toucan, Paradise Tanager, and many others.
We will visit another indigenous community called Sabanitas, it is located just 40 minutes from the hotel, and there is a comfortable trail to look for the Capuchinbird, an enigmatic bird of the Amazon Jungle, and there are only 4 spots in the entire world to see this bird, Guyana, Venezuela, Brazil and Colombia. In the afternoon, back to the hotel.
We will visit La Matraca Trail and some trails on the way, looking for some specialties of the Amazon. In the afternoon, we will have a chance to see a new bird for science, the Inirida Antshrike, discover in 2017. Finally, back to the hotel.
We will visit Yapacana Reserve in order to see the elusive Yapacana Antbird and other special birds of the White Sand Ecosystem, in the afternoon, flight to Bogotá, transfer to AZ Hotel.
